Thématique de la liberté créatrice, statut de la technique, fonction du « sentiment », problématique de l’individualité biologique, interrogation sur la pertinence de l’opposition mécanisme-finalité, questionnement sur l’historique de la notion de réflexe, réflexion sur la méthode et prise (...) de position sur l’importance philosophique et morale du Cogito : autant de moments d’un panorama qui permettra de mieux comprendre le Descartes de Canguilhem, et donc, on l’espère, Canguilhem lui-même. Den finske filosof Jaakko Hintikka er en af det 20. århundredes mest indflydelsesrige tænkere. Han blev født i 1929 i Vantaa i Finland og studerede filosofi og matematik ved universitetet i Helsinki under Eino Kaila og G.H. von Wright. Kaila er ikke kendt af mange - om end han af sin samtid blev anset som en sand naturfilosof, kyndig i såvel humaniora som naturvidenskab - men von Wright, den finske filosof med det tyskklingende efternavn, ringer måske en klokke. For nu (...) lige at få kongerækken på plads overtog von Wright i en periode Ludwig Wittgensteins professorat i Cambridge og Wittgensteins lærermester (for en tid) var ingen ringere end Lord Bertrand Russell. I begyndelsen af 1950'erne fik Hintikka en stilling på Harvard University og har sidenhen beklædt fornemme professorater blandt andet på Stanford University, Florida State University (samtidig med hans altid faste professorat på universitetet i Helsinki) og Boston University, hvor han stadig virker på fuld tid, selv om han snart passerer de 80. On peut comprendre l'idée hégélienne d'un esprit objectif comme celle d'une conception sociologique du langage et de l'esprit. Elle consiste à fonder le fait de la vie mentale sur la participation à des pratiques communes gouvernées par des règles sociales et par des institutions. Taylor, lorsqu'il montre comment la communication suppose des significations communes, propose une philosophie de l'esprit objectif. Une telle philosophie semble incompatible avec une autre idée défendue par Taylor: la définition herméneutique de l'homme comme l'animal qui s'interprète (...) lui-même. Dans sa réponse, Taylor souligne la différence entre une simple convergence dans le comportement des individus et une action effectivement commune. Il admet qu'on ne saurait confondre, par exemple, le fait de « devenir un ermite » et celui de « s'interpréter soi-même comme si l'on était un ermite ». Néanmoins, il maintient qu'on doit pouvoir parler d'une capacité humaine à se comprendre soi-même dans des termes correspondant aux possibilités fondamentales d'une existence humaine. The Hegelian idea of there being an objective spirit can be construed as a social theory of language and mind. According to this theory, to have a mental life requires participating into common practices governed by social rules and institutions. Taylor holds such a view when he points out that there would be no communication whitout common meanings (i.e. without an « objective spirit »). However, this social conception of mind seems to conflict with another of Taylor's views: the hermeneutic definition of men as « self-interpreting animals ». In his reply, Taylor stresses the difference between a mere convergence in behaviour and the commonality of common action. He agrees that one should not reduce e.g. « becoming a hermit » to « interpreting oneself as a hermit ». There is, however, such a thing as defining oneself or understanding oneself in terms of human nodal potentialities. (shrink)

Le philosophe français G. Bachelard est né à la fin du siècle dernier et est mort en octobre 1962, après un destin intellectuel très brillant. Par sa vie d'éternel étudiant, c'est-à-dire en état de recyclage continu, par sa culture finalement polyvalente et par son œuvre multidisciplinaire, ce philosophe et ce savant nous apparaît aujourd'hui comme un témoin très lucide, exceptionnel même, d'une époque bouleversée, et comme un interprète génial, un prophète en quelque sorte, dont la voix connaît une influence chaque (...) jour grandissante. Il nous apparaît aussi comme un médecin et un éducateur pour l'homme d'aujourd'hui. Le renouveau culturel que sa pensée suscite est à bien des égards analogue à l'avènement en Occident de la culture cartésienne, et précisément complémentaire de celle-ci devenue aujourd'hui gravement insufissante. La chimie conquiert le statut de science académique au cours du siècle des Lumières et jouit d’un très grand prestige intellectuel et social au XIXe siècle. Cette promotion se répercute-t-elle dans les classifications du savoir? En comparant deux textes consacrés à la philosophie de la chimie dans des ouvrages à vocation encyclopédique – l’article « Chymie » de l’Encyclopédie de Diderot rédigé en 1753 par G.-F. Venel et les leçons sur la chimie dans le Cours de philosophie positive d’Auguste Comte, (...) rédigées en 1835 – cet article tente de montrer qu’en dépit de son prestige croissant, la chimie conserve un statut problématique dans la classification du savoir. Cette science qui sera souvent érigée en modèle de positivité joue cependant un rôle très mineur dans l’élaboration du positivisme comtien. (shrink)

Sur la toile de fond de la theologie negative, tissee par la discussion des apories que soulevent les notions de l'ineffable et de l'un, Damascius, le dernier diadoque de l'Ecole d'Athenes, elaboreson systeme metaphysique, sans se departir de la rigueur de sa methode aporetique, qui est une critique radicale du langage a l'interieur des coordonnees fixees par le Parmenide de Platon et par les Oracles Chaldaiques. Damascius, dans une enquete unique par son ampleur et son originalite questionne tour a tour (...) Porphyre, Jamblique, Syrianus et Proclus sur les principes; il examine les problemes que pose, en derivation de l'un, la formation de la trinite; de l'un-tout (la limite), du tout-un (l'infini) et de l'unifie (le mixte ou l'etre). Lien a priori entre l'un-tout et le tout-un, l'unifie est le principe de constitution de tout ordre et de toute realite. Damascius etudie sa nature de mixte originaire et autoconstituant, d'etre exemplaire et de premier intelligible. Cette notion lui permet de pas au crible, pour la mieux fonder, la problematique neoplatonicienne de la manence, de la procession et de la conversion. Les divers niveaux d'unification de la pluralite intelligible l'amenent a construire une theorie generale des elements, des parties et des formes Au passage, de nombreux textes, capitaux du point de vue de l'ontologie et de la doctrine de la connaissance, font regretter qu'ils aient ete inconnus du Moyen Age et qu'ils le demeurent pour beaucoup de nos contemporains. An extension of the hypothetical experiment of Szilard, which involved the action of a one-molecule gas in an isolated isothermal system, is developed to illustrate how irreversibility may arise out of Brownian motion. As this development requires a consideration of nonmolecular components such as wheels and pistons, the thought-experiment is remodeled in molecular terms and appears to function as a perpetuum mobile.

Dieser Aufsatz ist eine kritische und erkundende Diskussion von Plantingas Behauptung, daß bestimmte Aussagen, aus denen evidentermaßen folgt, daß Gott existiert, berechtigterweise basal sein könnten. Im kritischen Abschnitt argumentiere ich dafür, daß es Plantinga nicht gelingt zu zeigen, daß das Kriterium des modernen Fundamentalisten für berechtigte Basalität, dem zufolge solche Aussagen nicht berechtigterweise basal sein können, selbstreferentiell inkohärent oder anderweitig mangelhaft ist. Im erkundenden Abschnitt versuche ich, ein Argument für die Auffassung zu entwickeln, daß solche Aussagen, selbst wenn sie berechtigterweise (...) basal sein könnten, wenn überhaupt, nur selten berechtigterweise basal für intellektuell differenzierte erwachsene Theisten unserer Kultur wären. An attempt to reveal the linguistic and cultural potential of education in the process of learning Russian as a means of communication, of cognition of the linguistic picture of the world and the phenomenon of culture is made in the article. The stages of development of linguocultural concept of teaching Russian language in the Republic of Bashkortostan are presented. New approaches to teaching Russian language are considered. The author shows that in the process of education, elementary literacy of students should (...) be achieved while they are dealing with communicative and socially important tasks contributing to the development and formation of students as linguistic personalities. The author concludes that the actual task of the modern school, which is a successful preparation for the unified state examination, should also be achieved not by increased training before the exam, but provided by the total system of education aimed at the formation of personality with a wide range of language capabilities: a cultural person, well-speaking, correct writing, able to understand and interpret the text, to express their thoughts and feelings in their own texts. Such training involves the ascent of a language personality from basic literacy to formed linguistic, communicative and cultural competences. Theoretical basis and methodological support of the concept are presented in the list of publications. (shrink)

The ethical pre-condition of randomised controlled trials is, at present, the presence of equipoise. This refers to an opinion of the investigator that there is uncertainty as to the merits of the treatments being compared. It is argued that since the decision to enrol is the potential subject’s, the investigator’s opinion is not ethically relevant. It is proposed instead that equipoise be patient-centred, and that a trial is in equipoise for a patient when enrolling gives them the same chance of (...) a good outcome as not enrolling. It is shown that trial enrolment is normally easily the best strategy for achieving a good outcome, and that trials currently thought to be unethical may be in patient-centred equipoise. This is so for three reasons: (1) patients in trials receive superior care, (2) trial enrolment minimises the risk of being a victim of a therapeutic disaster and (3) health professionals make mistakes, and a 50% chance of receiving the worse treatment until a trial reports is always better than any chance of receiving the worse treatment indefinitely. It is concluded that so long as the standard of professional conduct is the furtherance of patients’ objective interests randomised controlled trials are ethical. (shrink)
